‘Sankarabharanam’, a highly respected regional classical rhapsody made in 1980. It is a story of a popular Carnatic singer Sankara Sastri and his relationship with a dasi’s (bondwoman) daughter Tulasi (played by Manju Bhargavi). Rajalakshmi Ramesh, Chandra Mohan, Nirmalamma, and Allu Ramalingayya will be seen in prominent characters. It is tough to believe that J. V. Somayajulu who played the main role in the movie was just one-film-old by then. The film collectively won four national awards, three Nandi awards and a Filmfare award. Its no exaggeration to say this film triggered many other musical classics in Indian film industry.
